LIBERALS CONSIDER STAR WARS SEQUEL IN SECRET DEFENCE CONSULTATIONS
VANCOUVER — The Liberal government has launched a secretive round of defence consultations that puts “everything” on the table, including the privatization of important services like search and rescue and even reconsidering participation in the American’s ‘Star Wars’ ballistic missile defence program.
“After promising to be a more transparent and progressive government, they are musing about radically changing services Canadians rely on and they are doing this behind closed doors, by special invitation only,” said MP Randall Garrison, NDP Defence Critic.
Among the four members the Liberal government selected to oversee the secretive process is former defence minister Bill Graham, who is an outspoken advocate for joining the missile defence program.
“Canadians have a bad feeling about this,” said Garrison. “We were all relieved when the last Liberal government bowed to public pressure and decided after all not to participate in this wasteful program but suddenly this idea has been reawakened.”
The United States’ controversial ‘Star Wars’ missile defence program has cost $100,000,000,000 – a hundred billion dollars – in the ten years since Canada choose not to participate.
