The NDP Member of Parliament for Sackville—Eastern Shore, Peter Stoffer, has been named the Maclean’s Magazine 2013 Parliamentarian of the Year. The title is awarded based on votes from MPs of all political stripes.
“I’m honoured to have been chosen by my colleagues to receive this award,” said Stoffer.
Stoffer, who was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997, has become well known for his dedication to serving his constituents. Stoffer is the NDP Veterans Affairs critic and is widely respected for his commitment to all of Canada’s veterans and their families.
“He has mentored an entire generation of New Democrat MPs,” said NDP House Leader Nathan Cullen in a tribute to Stoffer in Parliament. “He has constantly shown us that politics is important, politics is always local, and politics should be done with respect, particularly when fighting for Canada’s veterans.”
