NDP defends Employment Insurance against Conservative attacks

New Democrats are continuing to pressure the Conservative government to cancel devastating changes to employment insurance and will dedicate their opposition day next Tuesday to this important issue. The disturbing information revealed today concerning Service Canada’s application of ‘denial quotas’ underscores the importance of defending innocent Canadians against these relentless Conservative attacks. NDP Employment Insurance critic, Anne-Marie Day, will table the following motion: “That the House call on the Government to reverse devastating changes it has made to Employment Insurance which restrict access and benefits, depress wages, push vulnerable Canadians into poverty and download costs to the provinces; and reinstate the Extra Five Weeks pilot project to avoid the impending ‘black hole’ of financial insecurity facing workers in seasonal industries and the regional economies they support.”
