Reality Check: Conservatives hiring consultants as a sleight of hand on tariffs
August 7th, 2013 - 10:22am
The Conservatives have commissioned a study, with a price tag between $50,000 and $100,000, to look at some tariff reductions from the last budget.
However, Budget 2013 also increased tariffs on thousands of goods and the study’s scope is so narrow that it prevents an assessment of the impact of these tax hikes.
It’s also interesting that the Conservatives aren’t using the government statistical agency, Statistics Canada, to collect this sort of information.
Statistics Canada certainly has a lot of experience with tracking consumer data.
Canadians deserve better.
